Forms of international assignment

An expat can work for his employer on the basis of a local contract or on the basis of an international assignment. Borrie Expatriate Services differentiates between four basic forms of international assignment:

• Business trips shorter than 3 months
• Short international assignment of 3 to 12 months
• Medium to longer international assignment of 1-3 to maximum 5 years
• Split family (for example three weeks away, one week at home)

Naturally, hybrid forms are also conceivable.
