The Netherlands will keep its borders closed to workers from Croatia for three more years, even though the country is a member of the European Union.

This means Croatian nationals who want to work in the Netherlands will need a work permit until 1 July 2018. There is an exception to the work permit requirement for Croatians who have been working with a valid work permit in the Netherlands for a year. In that case a work permit is no longer required.
